My oldest sister, Carrie, went into the ER Friday afternoon. She had been unconscious a day and a half before that lying in her house until my nephew and her roommates called an ambulance for her because they couldn't wake her up. She has overdosed on five serious painkillers... some of them are methodone, morphine, oxiconton, daravon... ok, so I forget the fifth, but you get the idea. They think she had stopped breathing while she had been unconscious and thus she has inhaled a lot of food and medicine particles and got an aspirated pneumonia. The stopping of breathing also deprived oxygen from her brain and they've also found weakness in her heart muscles. We don't know if she is going to live or die or come back out of this comatose state with severe brain damage or what the permanent outcome is yet. Yesterday, I went and saw her and they have a rule for her that they don't want family and friends talking too much to her or touching her. They have her on restraints because if she recognizes familiar faces and voices, she'll start moaning and thrashing around and she has tried to pull out her I.V. tubes and leads and such. When I went and saw her, the were taking her off of sedation a little to check her brain function, so they said go ahead and say one quick thing, so Dad and I let her know that we were here to support her and she did start moaningsoftly and moving around. The way she's lying in bed, she has the bed propped up in that lounge chair kind of angle and one leg is bent with the knee up and the other is dangling off the side of the bed. If it wasn't a hospital environment, I could see her peacefully laying like that outside by her pool. I've been praying that whatever happens, may Carrie find peace. Thank you in advance for keeping her in your thoughts and prayers as well!

Thanks everyone for your messages of support! As far as things go right now, the pneumonia she had is slowly getting cleared from her lungs, her heart muscles are functioning fine. The biggest concern is her brain function. Worst case scenario, she could remain in a vegetative state similar to Terri Shaivo where she can moan and move around somewhat but can't communicate. We're hoping she'll come out of that state though as there are addiction-related family matters we need to talk with her about and get her into a good quality treatment program. Keep thoughts and prayers coming! Thank you all many times again and again thank you!

Music of Night ~ my dear Friend,

…just about anyone else right now would think what I am about to say “improper” and “insensitive” and yet I know you understand this following statement… “….if it takes traveling to the ends of this world or to Middle Earth…whatever… May just the right lembas bread be found to be of help in this time of deep need.” ..and you know my prayers are with you/your sister/family at this critical time… *squishiness Hugs*

Kate, lots of people care about you and your family and what you're dealing with right now. Here's adding to the chorus of thoughts and prayers going out for all of you. I Pray that you get to discuss the adiction issues, as that will be a significant point of her recovery not just from the overdose and any possible brain dammage, but her recovery from addiction as well.

…and as a bit of a footnote… as found in John 6:31-33 (KJV – Bible)

Dear Kate,
when I don't know the person or family personally, I just pray for a sense of peace to cover and keep you. We are all with you in spirit.

Thank you all so very much! And yes, Connie, not only will I take that lembas bread from heaven... or Valinor, whichever... and eat it and be at peace for the long journey, but I will make sure it gets put in a blender and liquefied to a consistancy thin enough to travel through my sister's feeding tubes and give her the most divine nourishment! When I'm off the zone, you can reach me via msn at nachtmusik83@hotmail.com via email at nachtmusik83@gmail.com or if you don't use MSN and have a yahoo messenger id, post it here so I can add you via windows live messenger.

Great news! I'm so happy this morning! Carrie's coming out of her coma! She's starting to talk to people! A friend was visiting her earlier this morning and then was letting Carrie know she had to go and would be back later and Carrie actually answered her and said "OK!" Then when my aunt and uncle came to visit her, she recognized them and said, "Hi Aunt Kimmy! Hi Uncle Joe!" so she just keeps getting better every day! Yesterday she was better enough to be without the restraints on her arms and lie down and sit up when she wanted, and she could follow directions, like my sister Stacy got her to open her mouth so she could brush her teeth and she started being able to drink juice and swallow food... oh, it's so great! Thanks everyone for the support, keep it coming!

....there’s miraculous working properties in lembas bread I tell ya…. One does need to take courage/faith by the hand and be willing to leave the land of Hobbits though…

Post 21 by Amethyst Moon (I can't call it a day til I enter the zone BBS) on Tuesday, 25-Jul-2006 13:05:08

I have faith that she will be up and dancing across the lands of Middle-Earth with me soon enough. Hmm... maybe she's in the Hobbitspital, LOL! Connie of the Bun-Nosed variety, you always cheer me up and make me want to crack so many jokes which are needed in this formarly doubtful and sad but now excited and happy and loving time!

Post 22 by rdfreak (THE ONE AND ONLY TRUE-BLUE KANGA-KICKIN AUSIE) on Wednesday, 26-Jul-2006 2:25:11

that is sooo awesome Kate! am sooo happy for you all! She'll be up in no time! :)

Post 23 by Amethyst Moon (I can't call it a day til I enter the zone BBS) on Wednesday, 26-Jul-2006 14:13:08

It's funny you say she'll be up in no time because they're thinking about discharging her by the end of the week or early next week! The only thing is she'll have to get into a long-term drug treatment program as soon as possible because the short-term ones she's been in before haven't worked... well obviously, LOL! Anyway, the whole family's supporting her on that, especially mom and dad who have experience doing interventions and finding quality programs. Everything's status quo and the only other thing I have to say is yesterday I had a blast swimming with my nieces at the hotel they're staying at. Yesterday and today are definitely happier days than we've seen before!

Kate, that's great news! I don't know how much you've read on the subject of adictions and co-dependency, but you might try and look at the literature. I know the Library of Congress has a bunch of stuff in alternate formats. Continued thoughts and prayers.

…And so now Music of Earth, allow for us to take of the cordial, Miruvor, and it is thot to have come from the honey of the undying flowers in the gardens of Yavanna with its special properties giving renewed strength and vitality for great yet is the quest of the Journey that lies beforehand…
